Working together to save lives on our roads
I was invited to a Road Safety Forum organised by Avon and Somerset Police & the Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody yesterday evening, along with the families of road collision victims, Councillors/Officers from Bristol and Somerset and road safety charities. We discussed ways of working together, across the region, to save lives on our roads.
I spoke about Amy Branson’s campaign for safer roads, which she began after losing her beautiful daughter Bethany.
I also suggested that in the absence of Local Authority small road improvements funding grants, the Government provide Local Authorities with funding specific to road safety measures, especially during winter that could rectify roads adversely affected by extreme weather conditions.
‘m also keen for road safety data to be available to communities, through self-serving, to inform community groups who wish to pursue road safety measures, including speed reduction schemes.
This meeting is the start of further collaboration between the police and stakeholders.
