A371 road safety planned works update
Road safety at The Pecking Mill corner has been a cause of concern for local people for a long time. Lib Dem Somerset Councillor Claire Sully made it a priority to investigate the issues to find solutions. Claire has met with local residents, consulted with Avon and Somerset Police, organised road monitoring, liaised with Somerset Council Highways and Evercreech Parish Council.
To reduce the risks of collisions occurring on the A371, this week a section of the route around the bend is planned to be surface dressed, the reinstatement of lining and road studs will be undertaken as part of these works.
Following this, later in Somerset Council’s financial year, Somerset Council will be reducing the speed limit to 40 miles per hour, the scheme is part of Lib Dem-run Somerset Council’s package of other safety related speed limit changes being developed across the county. This package includes 15 new speed limits in the county at the request of local communities, where Somerset Council is working with the communities to deliver road safety and reduced speed limits. Ditcheat and Alhampton, and Pilton are two of the 15 schemes in Mendip South.
A371 is closed today (Monday) south from Bath and West showground during the day!
Hi Andrew
I’m not sure why the signage is incorrect. I’ve asked Head of Highways and the Senior Officers what is going on.
