Claire’s campaign week!

Here is a round up of Claire’s campaign week!

Rock 4 Jack fundraiser, Monday Bank Holiday at the Old Pier Tavern

A brilliant but emotional day supporting the Rock 4 Jack event at the Old Pier, Burnham-on-Sea.

Five-year-old Jack suffers from stage four high risk neuroblastoma, and requires lifesaving treatment in the US.

It was heartbreaking hearing Jack’s story, but he is an incredibly brave boy and has some remarkable people supporting him in his fight.

Jack’s treatment costs around $250,000, with his family having set up a fundraiser to help with the cost. As part of the event, I featured as part of a music video for a single that will be released to support the fundraising.

First stakeboards go up!

The first Liberal Democrat stakeboards went up this week in Bridgwater, while we continued to speak to local residents on the doorstep, receiving extremely positive feedback and support!

Conversations with Claire

Kicking off the Conversations with Claire campaign trail at the Purplespoon in Highbridge. At the weekly Conversations with Claire events, I am available to meet residents, talk through their desires for their community and discuss my plans for a brighter future in the new Bridgwater constituency!

There was a fantastic turnout for the first event, with residents coming to speak about concerns about local planning, Pawlett Hams, the NHS, foodbanks and their struggles because of the devastating Conservative cost-of-living crisis.

I have many more “Conversations with Claire” Q&A sessions set up, please keep an eye on my facebook page.

Claire Sully demands kinder politics after huge spike in hate crime

On Friday, horrific stats were released by Avon and Somerset Police which revealed a shocking rise in hate crime in the county. Figures show a total of 5,653 hate crimes were recorded in 2023/24, up from 3,483 in 2017, a rise of more than 62%.

We, as politicians, all have a responsibility to moderate our language and advocate a respect for all in our society. Read more on my statement and demand for a kinder politics here: https://clairesully.com/claire-sully-demands-kinder-politics-after-huge-spike-in-hate-crime/

Meeting with Somerset Wildlife Trust

I met with Somerset Wildlife Trust to discuss their latest nature restoration and climate plans in the constituency.

An illuminating meeting, and I commend the excellent work undertaken by the Trust to protect our precious wildlife!

Burnham and Highbridge Eco-Festival

A brilliant event, now in its second year (and my second time of attending!). It was fantastic to once again talk with, and listen to, grassroots community groups in Burnham & Highbridge, who make a huge difference to local people.
